The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) carried out a targeted operation against unlicensed pet dogs in the Aliganj area on Thursday, resulting in the collection of Rs 24,000 through fines and licence fees. The drive aimed to enforce compliance with pet registration and vaccination regulations.
Details of the Special Drive
Teams from the LMC's animal welfare wing, enforcement squad, and dog-catching unit conducted inspections in residential neighborhoods of Zone III. They checked pet licences and anti-rabies vaccination records for dogs kept by residents.
During the operation, four pet owners were found to be keeping dogs without valid licences. Each of them was fined, with total penalties amounting to Rs 20,000. Officials confirmed that all four individuals completed the registration process on the spot and were issued new licences.
Officials' Recommendations
Dr. Abhinav Verma, the animal welfare officer, urged pet owners to register their pets with the municipal corporation, ensure timely anti-rabies vaccinations, and always use leashes when taking dogs out in public places. He emphasized that such measures are essential for public safety and animal welfare.
The LMC plans to continue similar drives in other zones to ensure all pet owners comply with the rules. This initiative is part of broader efforts to manage the pet population and prevent rabies in the city.
