Lucknow to Host International Flower Show in Feb, Redesign Ads After Ahmedabad Visit
Lucknow Plans Int'l Flower Show, Ad Overhaul in Feb

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has unveiled ambitious plans to beautify the city and declutter its streets. Inspired by a successful model from another Indian metropolis, the civic body will organise a grand international flower show in February and completely revamp the system for hoardings and outdoor advertisements across Lucknow.

Ahmedabad Visit Sparks Major Urban Revamp Plans

The key decisions were taken following a detailed study tour by LMC officials to Ahmedabad. The team reviewed the city's acclaimed urban street planning and its systematic outdoor advertising framework. Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar has now directed concerned departments to prepare a detailed action plan to bring similar order and aesthetic appeal to Lucknow's major roads.

Blooming Spectacle: The International Flower Show

Slated for February, the flower show is planned to be a large-scale event. Civic officials confirmed that it will see participation from growers from several states as well as private agencies. The exhibition will be open to the public and is expected to be held at a prominent venue within the city.

While the administrative approvals are pending, the LMC has confirmed the event's scale and international participation. The final details regarding the exact dates, specific venue, and list of participating agencies will be announced once these approvals are secured.

Tackling Visual Pollution: A New Advertisement Policy

Running parallel to the floral festivities is a crucial project to regulate the city's visual landscape. The LMC is preparing a comprehensive plan to manage hoardings, unipoles, and all other forms of outdoor advertisements within its municipal limits.

The primary objectives of this overhaul are threefold:

  • Reduce visual clutter on city streets.
  • Improve road safety by removing distracting and poorly placed ads.
  • Bring a sense of uniformity and order to major thoroughfares.

The Ahmedabad model, which impressed the officials, focuses on:

  • Clearly defined advertisement zones.
  • Standardised structures for all outdoor ads.
  • Long-term concession agreements for stability.

Officials believe these measures help maintain consistent street design and encourage advertisers to invest in higher-quality, safer infrastructure.

Concrete Steps and Proposed Amendments

Based on these observations, the LMC has already proposed significant amendments to its existing advertisement policy. One of the most notable changes is the extension of the tender period for unipole advertisements from a short two years to a long-term 15 years.

This move is designed to attract serious investment and ensure the new structures are built to last. The detailed action plan for the street redesign project will include specific design guidelines, road-wise planning, and a phased implementation strategy.

Surveys of selected roads are currently in progress to identify which stretches will be included in the ambitious project's first phase. The Lucknow Municipal Corporation's twin initiatives mark a significant step towards a more organised, beautiful, and safer urban environment for its residents.
