In a firm declaration from Nagpur, Pyare Khan, the chairman of the Maharashtra Minorities Commission, has asserted that his rigorous campaign against "erring" minority schools will persist unabated. Allegations of Widespread Fraud and Misuse of Government Funds
Khan leveled serious accusations, stating that numerous schools in Maharashtra are leveraging their minority status to unjustly siphon money from government coffers, with little to no tangible benefits reaching the students. "There are 8,500 minority schools in the state, of which just over 3,000 receive government grants," he revealed. "Upon analyzing data, we discovered that many institutions lack genuine student enrollment, existing merely on paper. By inflating student numbers, they hire teachers whose salaries are funded by the government treasury. Alarmingly, this staff is almost invariably from the same family," Khan elaborated, highlighting a pattern of nepotism and financial mismanagement.
Rejection of Settlement Offers and Commitment to Accountability
The commission chief disclosed that he was approached with settlement proposals aimed at halting the crackdown. "Some group offered to appoint two teachers based on my recommendation in every school," Khan recounted. "I firmly told them that my family business is valued over Rs 2,000 crore, so I have no need for their bribe money or the power to appoint teachers. The government is spending over Rs 1,000 crore on minority institutions, yet these entities still complain that nothing is being done," he stated, underscoring his financial independence and dedication to integrity.
Khan issued a stern warning to the implicated schools, urging them to reform their practices. "I am cautioning them to mend their ways and come clean. If we track you down, the strictest and harshest action permissible under law will be taken against all stakeholders," he declared, emphasizing his resolve to enforce legal consequences.
