A significant fire broke out on the top floor of the residential ground-plus-seven-storey Atlantic Building on Sherly Rajan Road in Bandra West on Wednesday night. One person is feared trapped as firefighters worked to control the blaze.
According to the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the incident was reported at 9:12 pm through the civic control room. Fire engines, police personnel, 108 ambulance services, Adani Electricity staff, and ward officials were dispatched to the location. The fire was upgraded to a Level-I incident at 9:56 pm.
The flames engulfed the floor within minutes, making it difficult for rescue teams to access the affected area. Local residents reported that firefighters struggled to reach the premises due to the intensity and rapid spread of the fire. Unconfirmed reports from the scene suggested that one person might be trapped inside, but officials had not verified this information at the time of reporting.
Local corporator Swapna Mhatre stated that the fire spread quickly across the entire floor. 'Several fire engines are at the site, and personnel are working continuously to prevent the blaze from spreading further. However, the flames remain intense,' she said.
Madhu Poplai of the Pali Hill Residents' Association noted that the flames were visible from the upper floors of neighbouring buildings, causing panic in the area. 'The fire could be seen raging across the top floor of the building, and residents watched in horror as the flames spread. We are hoping that no lives are lost and that the fire brigade can bring the situation under control quickly,' she said.
Firefighting operations were ongoing at the time of reporting. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and no official confirmation of casualties or injuries has been issued.
