The Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated the redevelopment of the Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) campus and its associated hospitals by inviting bids for a consultant to prepare a comprehensive blueprint. This move comes a month after Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced the project.
Campus Significance
Located in central Delhi, the MAMC campus is one of the capital's busiest government healthcare hubs, handling a massive daily patient load from Delhi and neighbouring states. The cluster remains a critical component of the city's public health infrastructure.
Three-Phase Redevelopment Plan
According to tender documents, the redevelopment exercise will be carried out in three phases:
Phase 1: Master Plan Preparation
This phase involves preparing a detailed master plan with a 30-year vision, ensuring compliance with local body regulations, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) norms, and other statutory provisions.
Phase 2: Structural Audit and Design
The second phase focuses on a structural audit and technical evaluation of existing buildings. Based on the findings, the consultant will prepare modern designs, layouts, and redevelopment proposals for new infrastructure.
Phase 3: Tender Documentation and Support
The final phase involves preparing tender documents and providing technical assistance during the bidding process to facilitate timely project execution.
Proposed Facilities
Plans include multi-storey residential complexes, hostels, nursing facilities, a fire station, sanitation systems, internal roads, and improved campus connectivity. The project will also examine provisions for advanced security systems, cafeterias, and multi-level parking structures to support the growing needs of patients, students, and staff.
