Kanpur: A man has been arrested for allegedly strangling a tailor with a gamcha after he refused to share laddoos in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district. The accused was later tracked down and apprehended while hiding in an orchard on the outskirts of the city.
Incident Details
Nizamuddin, 45, a tailor residing in Kanshiram Colony near the old police lines in Mohalla Tajpur Naukasat, had purchased a plot on Tuesday. On Wednesday evening, he went to his friend's house in Mohalla Shekhana with sweets, but his friend was not home.
According to police, as Nizamuddin reached his bicycle, the accused, identified as Wasiq Mulla, asked for sweets. After Nizamuddin refused, Wasiq allegedly assaulted him with slippers. Residents who attempted to intervene were pushed aside, police said. The accused then reportedly wrapped a gamcha around Nizamuddin's neck, dragged him along the road, and strangled him to death.
Investigation and Arrest
SP Vinod Kumar said the investigation found that the accused had a history of mental instability. A murder FIR has been registered. Inspector-in-charge Jitendra Pratap Singh stated that no prior enmity or motive has surfaced so far.
The accused was hiding in an orchard on the outskirts of the city when police tracked him down and arrested him. The motive behind the killing appears to be a trivial dispute over sweets, highlighting how minor disagreements can escalate into violent crimes.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover any further details regarding the incident. The community remains shocked by the sudden act of violence over such a petty issue.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and mental health awareness. The accused's history of mental instability may play a role in the legal proceedings.
