A 48-year-old man was killed in a road accident on Container Road in Kochi on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Praveenan K S, a resident of Manjummel. The accident occurred around 10:30 PM near Eloor Aanavathil while he was riding a scooter.
Police Investigation Underway
Police suspect the incident to be a hit-and-run case, but they have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the accident or the vehicle involved. Evidence collection was conducted at the scene on Monday. An FIR has been registered for causing death by negligence.
Legal Consequences Under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
According to the police, if the driver of the vehicle fled the scene without reporting the incident, they could face more serious penalties under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Under BNS, a driver who flees an accident site without notifying authorities may face up to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine.
The body of the deceased was handed over to relatives after an autopsy was performed on Monday. The investigation is ongoing to identify the vehicle and the driver involved in the accident.
