Mandya: Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer KR Nandini on Tuesday instructed officials of the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department to take appropriate legal measures to ensure that no village faces drinking water scarcity. Speaking at the District Water and Sanitation Committee meeting, she emphasized the need to undertake emergency water works based on priority and necessity to maintain an uninterrupted water supply.
Key Directives on Water Quality and Quantity
Nandini stated that water quality and quantity must not vary, and even the last person in line must receive the designated supply. In vulnerable villages, officials must submit an action plan outlining the nature of the issue, corrective steps, and estimated costs. The meeting extensively discussed water shortages, dropping borehole levels, pipeline repairs, and power outages across various taluks.
Emergency Works Ordered
The CEO directed immediate emergency works, such as drilling new borewells, repairing damaged motors, laying temporary pipelines, and supplying tanker water where critical. Regarding helpdesks set up at district and taluk levels for summer water complaints, officials were ordered to submit weekly reports on grievances received and resolved.
Jal Jeevan Mission and Multi-Village Scheme
Instructions were given to expedite incomplete Jal Jeevan Mission works to ensure household tap connections, coordinating directly with contractors where delays exist. Multi-Village Scheme progress was also reviewed to guarantee safe and continuous supply.
Water Testing Campaign
Additionally, a water testing campaign using Field Test Kits will run from May 25, 2026, to June 10, 2026, involving panchayat staff and ASHA workers.
