A devastating fire erupted at a rented house in Krishna Nagar Daurali, under Pallavpuram police station in Meerut, early Monday, claiming the lives of Sagar Giri (35) and his eight-year-old daughter Shivani. Ten other individuals sustained severe burn injuries and remain in critical condition.

Details of the Incident

The blaze broke out around 2 am while all 12 occupants were asleep, quickly filling the house with thick smoke. The victims were rendered unconscious before neighbors could alert the police and fire services. Rescue teams worked for hours to extricate the trapped individuals. Sagar and Shivani were pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital, while the others are undergoing intensive medical treatment.

Property and Ownership

The house is owned by Satish Kumar, a resident of Kila Parikshitgarh. The front portion of the property houses two shops, one of which is used by Krishna Pal for his tent business. The rear section comprises five rooms and two kitchens, rented out to two families. The fire destroyed goods worth approximately ₹10 lakh, along with a scooter and two motorcycles.

Possible Cause

Daurala Circle Officer Prakash Chandra Agarwal stated that a short circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
