Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada) has conducted its annual pre-monsoon survey of old and dilapidated cessed buildings in the island city, identifying 82 structures as highly dangerous. This list includes 43 buildings that were also flagged in the previous year's survey.
Buildings Identified Across Key Locations
The Mumbai Building Repairs and Reconstruction Board, under Mhada, identified these hazardous structures in areas such as Bomanji Lane, Bora Bazaar, Samuel Street, Sheikh Memon Road, Kalbadevi, JSS Road, VP Road, and Mama Parmanand Marg. Additionally, buildings in Girgaum, Khetwadi, Mazgaon, Kalachowkie, Nagpada-Byculla, and Dadar-Shivaji Park are on the list.
Occupants and Eviction Process
A total of 2,736 people reside in these buildings, comprising 2,256 residential and 480 non-residential occupants. Mhada issued vacate notices to 176 residents. Following this, 29 individuals relocated to transit camps, while 36 made alternative arrangements. Eviction notices were sent to the remaining occupants, and the process of vacating the premises is currently underway.
The board has urged all inhabitants to vacate the dangerous buildings promptly. To ensure safety, a 24/7 control room has been established in Tardeo to receive distress calls. The control room can be reached at 022-2353 6945 or 93216-37699.
This proactive measure aims to prevent any untoward incidents during the monsoon season, when heavy rains often exacerbate the risk of collapse in such structures.
