In a significant boost to urban infrastructure, the Mohali Municipal Corporation has given the green light to over 72 development projects with a combined worth of approximately Rs 38 crore. The decision emerged from a crucial meeting of the Finance and Contracts Committee held on November 30, 2025.
Road Infrastructure Gets Major Upgrade
The committee, under the leadership of Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, approved substantial funding for comprehensive road improvement initiatives across multiple wards. The projects encompass premix carpeting, road recarpeting, installation of kerbs and channels, side tiles placement, drainage system enhancements, and road furniture upgrades.
Mayor Sidhu emphasized that "transforming Mohali's roads to meet international standards stands as our foremost priority. Citizens can look forward to relief from damaged and unfinished road surfaces in the near future."
Sports Facilities and Market Improvements
The development blueprint includes significant allocations for sports infrastructure and recreational facilities. Numerous parks throughout Mohali will receive new installations including open-air gym equipment, yoga shelters, badminton courts, and basketball facilities.
Commercial areas in Phase 10 and Sector 68 markets are set for substantial upgrades with an approved budget of around Rs 45 lakh. The improvement plan covers flooring replacement, footpath enhancements, lighting system upgrades, and comprehensive repair works.
Additionally, the municipal corporation will address long-standing concerns in market back lanes by implementing tile laying and drainage improvement projects, providing much-needed relief to local shopkeepers and visitors.
Safety and Sanitation Measures
A critical safety project involves the installation of a new shallow tubewell and pump mechanism at the Industrial Area Phase 8 B dumping site. Officials have identified this fire-control system as an urgent requirement for enhanced safety protocols.
During the meeting, Mayor Sidhu issued strict directives regarding city cleanliness, mandating immediate cleaning operations at all Resource Management Centre points and ensuring daily sanitation of major thoroughfares. The mayor stressed that "an effective sanitation framework plays the most crucial role in elevating the city's overall image. We will not accept any negligence in this critical area."
The meeting saw participation from key officials including Senior Deputy Mayor Amarik Singh Somal, Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh, Assistant Commissioner Ranjeev Kumar, and Councillor-members Jasbir Singh Manku and Anuradha Anand, among other municipal representatives.
This substantial investment in Mohali's infrastructure is expected to address numerous long-pending demands from various wards, with residents anticipated to witness tangible improvements in urban amenities and facilities in the coming months.
