The Mohali Municipal Corporation (MC) has issued a stern final warning to all city residents, commercial establishments, and institutions, giving them just three days to remove all illegal encroachments from public spaces. This decisive action comes in compliance with direct orders from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
Final Warning and Impending Action
In a public notice released on Friday, the civic body declared that any unauthorized structures occupying green belts, footpaths, market areas, or government land must be cleared voluntarily. Municipal Commissioner Parminder Pal Singh emphasized that this is the absolute last warning being provided to every individual, shopkeeper, organization, and market association in Mohali.
The notice clearly states that failure to comply will result in strict action being taken without any further notice. A joint team comprising officials from the MC, GMADA, and the police will commence enforcement actions immediately after the three-day deadline expires.
Demolition Drive Schedule and Responsibilities
In a separate operational order, MC Commissioner Singh has assigned specific duties to officials and confirmed that the anti-encroachment drive will begin on December 2, 2025. The initial phase of the crackdown will target Phases 4 and 5 of the city.
Municipal Town Planner Rajneesh Wadhwa and two architects have been given joint charge of the demolition operation. The Superintendent of the tehbazar department has been specifically tasked with clearing encroachments in market areas. The operation will be supported with one earth mover machine each from the MC and GMADA.
Consequences for Violators
Commissioner Singh made it unequivocally clear that any damage occurring during the demolition operation will be the sole responsibility of the violator. Furthermore, the complete cost of the demolition will be recovered from those who illegally occupied public land.
The corporation has explicitly stated that no separate or additional notices will be issued to anyone. This announcement has created significant concern among those who have illegally occupied green belts, footpaths, and other public spaces, particularly many showroom owners who have created both temporary and permanent structures behind their shops.
Officials confirmed that the action is being initiated on December 2 because a related defamation case is pending, and the high court has issued clear instructions to remove all illegal encroachments from the city without further delay.
