The Mokokchung district administration officially launched the district action plan for the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) Campaign 2026 on Friday, marking a significant step towards creating a drug-free society. The initiative aligns with the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment's nationwide mandate to eradicate substance abuse at the grassroots level.
Four-Pronged Approach
To tackle the crisis, the district's comprehensive action plan employs a four-pronged strategy. This includes a supply-curbing strategy to choke illicit drug trafficking networks, a demand reduction report to evaluate and systematically lower dependency, outreach and awareness programmes to educate vulnerable demographics, and monitoring and documentation to ensure accountability and track progress.
Stakeholder Responsibilities
District officers and civil society organisations have been assigned targeted, time-bound duties. These stakeholders will work in tandem to eliminate substance abuse networks and foster a healthier, drug-free community environment across the district.
The launch event saw participation from various officials and community leaders, underscoring the collective commitment to combating drug abuse. The action plan is expected to be implemented in phases, with regular reviews to assess effectiveness and make necessary adjustments.
This initiative is part of a broader national effort under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, which aims to create awareness and reduce substance abuse across India. Mokokchung's plan serves as a model for other districts in Nagaland and beyond.
