The Madhya Pradesh government has reopened a recruitment channel for outstanding sportspersons in the state police, restoring direct entry under revised rules notified on Tuesday.
Revised Rules and Annual Recruitment
The state home department on Tuesday notified major amendments to the Madhya Pradesh Police (Appointment of Outstanding Athletes) Rules, 2021. The revised rules restore direct recruitment of sportspersons into police ranks and tighten selection, eligibility and evaluation procedures to make the process more transparent and effective, officials said.
Under the changes, vacancies for sub-inspector and constable posts will be advertised annually by police headquarters, ensuring a regular sports quota recruitment drive. Under the amended norms, 10 posts of sub-inspector and 50 posts of constable will be filled through the scheme.
The move is aimed at providing dignified, stable employment for talented athletes in the state and allowing them to continue training and competition without disruption, government sources added.
Key Exemptions and Eligibility
- Athletes who have won medals or who have participated in the Olympic Games, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games will be eligible for direct appointment.
- Outstanding sportspersons will receive full exemptions from prescribed educational qualifications and height requirements.
- They will also be exempted from the written examination and the physical efficiency test.
- Appointments will be made under the unreserved (general) category.
- Only disciplines included in the last three Olympic Games will be considered.
- In case of equal merit marks, seniority will be decided first by event priority (for example, Olympics, Asian Games, World Cup) and then by the athlete’s age.
Posts and Qualifications
Sub-inspector: Direct appointment will be available to sportspersons who have participated in the Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games or World Cup/World Championships. Both medalists and participants will be eligible.
Constable: Candidates eligible for sub-inspector posts will also qualify for constable recruitment. In addition, athletes who have won gold, silver or bronze at National Games or authorised National Championships will be eligible for constable positions.
