A 50-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death over a land dispute at Kubra Bigha village under Noorsarai police station area in Nalanda district on Monday. In separate incidents, a man died and several others were injured in group clashes in Ongaridham and Sare areas.
Noorsarai Incident
The deceased in the Noorsarai incident was identified as Kamlesh Manjhi, a resident of Kubra Bigha village. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the assault and rushed him to Biharsharif Model Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to the deceased’s relative Shiv Kumar Manjhi, Kamlesh had purchased a piece of land from one Yogendra Paswan around 30 years ago. On Monday morning, Yogendra allegedly asked him to vacate the land, leading to an argument. Shiv alleged that Yogendra later started demolishing Kamlesh’s house and brutally assaulted him when he protested.
DSP-II Sanjay Jaiswal said police have sent the body for postmortem and are taking further action in the matter.
Ongaridham Incident
In another incident, a 40-year-old man, identified as Baleshwar Paswan of Sabalpur village under Ongaridham police station area, succumbed to injuries at Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences (BMIMS) on Monday. He was admitted to BMIMS in critical condition late on Sunday night after allegedly being attacked by neighbours led by Rakesh Roshan Paswan.
Police said the accused allegedly assaulted him on suspicion that he had relieved himself near the women members of their family. Five other persons from both sides were also injured and are undergoing treatment at a local PHC.
Ongaridham SHO Sonu Kumar Sharma said FIRs from both sides have been lodged and three persons, including Rakesh Roshan Paswan, have been arrested. Raids are on to nab the remaining accused, he added.
Sare Incident
In yet another incident at Manpur village under Sare police station area, three persons, including a woman constable, were injured after two groups of relatives clashed over an old land dispute.
Sare SHO said an FIR has been lodged by one group in which one Shambhu Kumar sustained head injuries. He said the injured woman constable is posted in Sheikhpura district. The SHO added that the constable’s brother, Dharmaveer Kumar alias Biren Bhai, was arrested on Sunday night for allegedly creating chaos under the influence of alcohol. No fresh arrests have been made so far, police said.
