Nashik Zilla Parishad Launches Comprehensive Rehabilitation Program for Rural Single Women

The Nashik Zilla Parishad has embarked on a significant initiative to rehabilitate and create employment opportunities for 14,185 single women residing in rural areas across the district. This ambitious program follows an extensive survey that meticulously mapped the women's age groups and identified their specific needs and priorities.

Survey Reveals Critical Demographic Data

According to a senior Zilla Parishad official, the comprehensive survey was conducted during the tenure of former Chief Executive Officer Ashima Mittal. The current CEO, Omkar Pawar, has now begun implementing targeted measures focused on skill development and self-employment to economically empower these women.

The survey uncovered a substantial population of widows, divorcees, deserted women, and elderly unmarried women who often remain overlooked within traditional policy frameworks, the officer explained. The ZP is addressing not only economic challenges but also systemic issues including health security and the emotional well-being of elderly single women.

Taluka-Wise Distribution and Age Group Analysis

Taluka-wise data reveals that Sinnar has the highest concentration of single women, followed by Igatpuri, Niphad, and Yeola. The age-group breakdown from the survey provides crucial insights:

  • 1,274 women are in the 18–30 age group
  • 8,551 women are between 31 and 40 years old
  • 26,276 women fall in the 41–55 category
  • 56,694 women are aged above 55

Focus on Sustainable Livelihoods and Social Integration

The primary objective is to ensure sustainable livelihoods for approximately 36,000 women below the age of 55, the officer emphasized. Financial independence will help them gain dignity and social acceptance within their communities.

As part of the livelihood support initiative, the Zilla Parishad plans to integrate eligible women into self-help groups. This strategic approach will enable them to actively participate in the economic system and generate stable income streams.

Holistic Support Beyond Employment

Beyond employment generation, the district administration is implementing a comprehensive support system that includes:

  1. Health security measures tailored to women's specific needs
  2. Emotional support programs, particularly targeting elderly women
  3. Educational assistance for approximately 22,000 children of these women

The ZP is considering enrolling the women's children under the Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Bal Sangopan Scheme, which provides a monthly scholarship of ₹2,250 per child. This initiative aims to prevent school dropouts and support continued education, breaking the cycle of poverty across generations.

This multi-faceted approach represents a significant step toward creating sustainable change in rural Nashik, addressing both immediate economic needs and long-term social integration for single women and their families.
