Newly-wed couple found dead in Hyderabad, suicide suspected

A newly-wed couple was discovered dead under suspicious circumstances at their residence in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, on Saturday. Police suspect it to be a case of suicide.

Couple Identified

According to Balanagar assistant commissioner of police (ACP) P Naresh Reddy, the deceased have been identified as Yemjala Karthik, 28, and his wife Yerramalla Manjula, 27. Karthik worked in the marketing department of a private company, while Manjula was a homemaker. The couple got married in March this year.

Discovery of the Bodies

Around 11 am, Karthik's brother, who resides on the second floor of the building, went to call him for breakfast. Finding the door locked from inside and receiving no response despite repeated knocks, he broke a window and peered in, only to discover Karthik lying motionless. With the help of neighbours, he broke open the main door and found Manjula dead on the bed. Both were rushed to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead.

Police Investigation

The hospital informed the police, who arrived at the scene and transferred the bodies to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Kukatpally sub-inspector K Narsimha stated that while Karthik had visible bodily injuries, no external injuries were found on Manjula. The cause of death for Manjula will only be confirmed after the autopsy.

Police are yet to determine the motive behind the suspected suicide. A complaint has been lodged by Manjula's mother. The ACP noted that the family has not raised any suspicion against the husband or his relatives and appears to be in a state of shock.

Family Background

Karthik's mother lived on the ground floor, his elder brother on the second floor, and the newly-wed couple on the first floor. The family last saw the deceased around 1 am on Friday. When the couple did not show up for breakfast at the mother's house, the brother went to check and discovered the tragedy.

Police confirmed that the marriage was arranged. A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
