Commuters traveling between Rise Chowk and Techzone-4 in Greater Noida West are facing extended detours after traffic police installed road barriers near the Hanuman temple roundabout. Initially introduced as a temporary measure during peak hours, residents claim the barriers have now become a permanent fixture, forcing motorists to take a U-turn 2-3 kilometers ahead at the Golden-I roundabout.
Residents Express Frustration
Manish Kumar, a resident of Ecovillage 1, noted that the barriers were previously lifted between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM and reinstalled only during evening rush hours. However, this practice has changed. They are now left in place throughout the day, he said, adding that the detour often leads to fresh traffic jams at the next junction.
On Wednesday, Kumar posted on X, tagging the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) and Noida Traffic Police, questioning the blocking of essential routes without explanation of whether the barriers are permanent. Another resident, Shiv Choudhary, echoed the sentiment, demanding that the barriers be removed at least during non-peak hours.
Traffic Congestion Hotspot
The Hanuman temple roundabout is a critical pressure point where traffic from Dadri, Ecotech, Techzone, and Delta sectors converges daily. During evening rush hours, tailbacks stretch nearly a kilometer towards Bisrakh, exacerbating the commute for thousands.
Police Justify the Measure
DCP (Traffic) Abhay Kumar Mishra stated that the barriers were installed as a temporary safety measure at the accident-prone roundabout. A traffic light system is being planned for the area, he said, adding that until then, the barriers are necessary to prevent mishaps.
Residents, however, remain skeptical, calling for a balanced approach that ensures safety without causing undue inconvenience.
