Opposition Slams Modi Govt Over Commercial LPG Price Hike
Opposition Slams Modi Govt Over Commercial LPG Hike

The opposition parties have launched a scathing attack on the Narendra Modi government following the recent hike in commercial liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder prices. They argue that the price increase will directly impact the common man, making essential items like roti thalis more expensive.

Price Hike Details

The government increased the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder by Rs 30, effective from March 1, 2025. This is the second consecutive month of price hikes, with a similar increase implemented in February. The revised price in Delhi now stands at Rs 1,803.50 per cylinder, while in Mumbai it is Rs 1,765.50.

Opposition's Reaction

Congress leader Pramod Tiwari stated, "Cylinders don't get expensive, roti thali does. This price hike will burden every household, especially small businesses like dhabas and restaurants that rely on commercial LPG." He accused the government of prioritizing corporate interests over the welfare of common citizens.

Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien echoed similar sentiments, saying, "The Modi government is making life unaffordable for the poor and middle class. First, they increased the price of domestic LPG, and now commercial LPG. This is a direct attack on the kitchen budget of every Indian."

Impact on Common Man

The price hike is expected to have a ripple effect on the cost of food items, as restaurants and eateries may pass on the increased fuel costs to consumers. The opposition has demanded an immediate rollback of the price hike and a reduction in LPG prices to ease the burden on citizens.

In response, government officials defended the decision, citing rising global crude oil prices and the need to adjust domestic rates accordingly. However, the opposition remains unconvinced, vowing to raise the issue in the upcoming parliamentary session.
