The drama unfolded as the Mysuru to Bengaluru passenger train began departing Pandavapura station. Shivaraju Katteri, a 55-year-old resident of Pandavapura taluk, decided to board the moving train despite clear and repeated warnings from Station Master Singh.
Singh, demonstrating exceptional alertness, noticed the passenger's dangerous intent. He immediately cautioned Katteri against the attempt. "I warned him not to board the moving train and told him that another train would arrive shortly," Singh recounted to The Times of India. He even informed the passenger that a second train would be available in just half an hour, advising him to wait safely.

Ignoring the sound advice, Shivaraju Katteri made another frantic attempt to catch the moving train. In the process, he lost his footing and slipped, falling into a dangerously narrow gap between the platform and the train. This created an immediate, life-threatening situation.

He rushed towards the passenger, grabbed hold of him, and physically dragged him away from the train's path to a safe spot on the platform.
