Pedestrian Killed in Car Accident in Chandigarh's Dhanas

A tragic road accident occurred in the marble market area of Dhanas, Chandigarh, on Saturday, resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The victim, identified as Bibhash Kumar, a 35-year-old labourer residing in Kachchi Colony, Dhanas, was crossing the road when a speeding car struck him. The impact was so severe that he was thrown into the air and landed several metres away, succumbing to his injuries on the spot.

Details of the Incident

According to the Sarangpur police, the incident took place around 8:30 PM when Bibhash Kumar was attempting to cross the road. A car coming from Mullanpur hit him at high speed. Eyewitnesses reported that the collision was forceful, causing the pedestrian to be flung through the air before hitting the ground. The car then lost control and crashed into a roadside pole, causing significant damage to the vehicle. The driver of the car, identified as Suraj Kumar, a resident of Mastgarh village in Punjab, sustained injuries in the crash. He was promptly taken to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Sector 12, with the assistance of a PCR vehicle. However, he later died from his injuries.

Legal Proceedings

The Sarangpur police registered a case against the driver under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested him. Following his arrest, Suraj Kumar was released on bail. The police are conducting further investigations into the matter. The victim, Bibhash Kumar, is survived by his wife and three children, who are now left to cope with the loss of their sole breadwinner.
