Punjab Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra announced on Wednesday that the election department is fully prepared to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the state. Speaking at the valedictory session of a three-day state-level training program, Mitra emphasized that the accuracy of electoral rolls is fundamental to strengthening democratic values in the country.
Training Program Details
The training program, held from June 8 to 10, was organized by the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, in line with directives from the Election Commission of India (ECI). It saw participation from nearly 650 officials and employees representing all 117 Assembly Constituencies across the 23 districts of Punjab. Attendees included Additional District Election Officers (ADEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), Election Tehsildars, District Master Level Trainers (DMLTs), and technical staff.
House-to-House Enumeration
The SIR-2026 exercise, which involves house-to-house enumeration, is scheduled to commence across Punjab from June 25. Mitra stressed that it is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to implement the ECI's instructions with utmost dedication and sincerity during this revision process.
She further informed that training programs for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) will be conducted across all districts of Punjab from June 11 to June 24, ensuring that ground-level staff are well-prepared for the enumeration drive.
Strengthening Democratic Processes
The CEO reiterated that the primary goal of the SIR is to update and correct the electoral rolls, thereby enhancing the integrity of the electoral process. The comprehensive training initiative underscores the commitment of the Punjab election department to conduct free and fair elections by maintaining accurate voter lists.
