In a bid to resolve the ongoing strike by Safai Karamcharis in Punjab, state ministers Harpal Cheema and Harjot Bains met with union representatives on Tuesday. The meeting aimed to address the workers' demands and restore sanitation services across the state.
Key Demands Discussed
The unions presented several demands, including regularisation of contractual workers, provision of safety equipment, and timely payment of salaries. The ministers assured the delegation that their grievances would be taken up with the chief minister.
Government's Assurance
Harpal Cheema stated that the government is committed to the welfare of Safai Karamcharis and will work towards resolving their issues at the earliest. Harjot Bains added that a committee would be formed to examine the demands and suggest a roadmap for implementation.
The strike, which began last week, has led to accumulation of garbage in several cities, causing inconvenience to residents. The unions have agreed to temporarily suspend the strike pending further discussions.
