Rescue Teams Recover Two Bodies After Ratnagiri Landslide
Two bodies have been recovered following a landslide that buried several houses in Ratnagiri district, Maharashtra. The district administration, police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are jointly conducting search and rescue operations.
Ongoing Search Efforts
The landslide occurred in a hilly area, trapping residents under debris. Teams are using heavy machinery and sniffer dogs to locate survivors. Officials stated that the rescue operation is challenging due to continuous rain and unstable terrain.
According to Mrityunjay Bose, reporting for Deccan Herald, the recovery of two bodies was confirmed on 08 July 2026. The identity of the deceased is yet to be released. Local authorities have urged residents in vulnerable areas to relocate to safer zones.
Government Response
Maharashtra Chief Minister expressed condolences and announced compensation for the victims' families. The National Disaster Management Authority has been alerted, and additional NDRF teams are being deployed. Relief camps have been set up for displaced families.
Search operations are expected to continue for the next 48 hours. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow evacuation orders.
