DEHRADUN: A 45-year-old man allegedly attempted suicide due to financial distress after losing his savings in business in Uttarakhand's Rishikesh. The man, identified as Mukesh Kothari, a resident of Pashulok Colony in Rishikesh, first tried to crash his car into a pole. However, the attempt failed as the vehicle's airbags deployed.
He then jumped into the Shakti canal. Local Van Gujjar youths acted quickly and rescued him from the water. Police reached the spot and took him into custody. During questioning, it was found that he had been suffering from depression due to severe financial losses.
After counselling and completing necessary formalities, police handed him over to his family members.
This incident highlights the growing issue of financial distress leading to mental health crises. Experts advise seeking professional help and support from family and friends during tough times.
