Stone Pelting Incident on Agra-Mumbai Highway Leaves Six Injured
In a disturbing incident late Thursday night, six people, including the bus driver and cleaner, were injured after unidentified miscreants allegedly pelted stones at a private passenger bus on the Agra-Mumbai National Highway in Barwani district. The attack occurred near Bazaad Phata while the bus was traveling from Indore to Mumbai.
Preliminary Investigation Details
According to Julwania police station in-charge Saurabh Batham, two individuals on a motorcycle were riding on the wrong side of the highway and hurled stones at the moving vehicle. One of the stones shattered the bus's front windshield, sending glass shards into the driver's cabin and injuring six occupants, including the driver and cleaner.
Police responded swiftly after receiving information about the incident. They shifted the injured to a medical facility for treatment and escorted the damaged bus to the police station. Despite the damage, the bus later resumed its journey to Mumbai.
Overcrowding Raises Safety Concerns
Batham noted that the bus, which has a seating capacity of 23 passengers, was carrying more than 60 people at the time of the incident. This overcrowding could have exacerbated the situation had the bus lost control.
Driver Recounts the Incident
Bus driver Shyamlal described the impact, stating that the stone struck with such force that the front windshield shattered completely. He expressed relief that no passenger suffered eye injuries. “Had the bus lost control, hit another vehicle, crashed into the divider or veered off the road, the consequences could have been far more serious,” he said.
Passengers Panic
Farha, a passenger traveling from Indore to Mumbai who was seated in the cabin, said the incident triggered panic among those on board. The sudden attack left many shaken but fortunately no one sustained major injuries.
Police Investigation Underway
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from the area is being examined to identify and trace the accused. Batham added that the motive behind the stone pelting will become clear once the accused are arrested.
