A video showing a stray dog wandering inside a passenger lounge at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage and raising serious concerns about passenger safety and airport hygiene standards.
Incident Sparks Debate on Security and Cleanliness
The footage has ignited a debate among travelers, with many questioning the effectiveness of security protocols and cleanliness measures at the airport. Social media users expressed shock and dismay, demanding immediate action to prevent such incidents in the future.
Airport Authorities Respond
In response to the incident, airport authorities stated that they are working closely with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which is the designated authority for stray dog control in the area. According to RGIA, GHMC teams have been conducting regular drives within the airport premises, and since January 2026, a total of 21 stray dogs have been addressed.
The airport further emphasized that strict waste management protocols have been reinforced across all service providers. This includes the mandatory disposal of waste in covered bins to reduce attractions for stray animals. Additionally, on-ground staff have been sensitized to maintain heightened vigilance and take preventive measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.
