Suvendu Adhikari Govt Begins BSF Border Fencing, Rolls Out Central Schemes
Suvendu Adhikari Govt Begins BSF Border Fencing Push

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has announced several major decisions following the first cabinet meeting of the newly formed BJP government in the state. The state government has initiated the process of handing over land to the Border Security Force (BSF) for the construction of fencing along the Bangladesh border, with a target to complete the land transfer within 45 days.

Rollout of Central Schemes in Bengal

Adhikari confirmed that the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme and the Ujjwala 3.0 cooking gas subsidy program will now be implemented in West Bengal. These schemes were previously not rolled out in the state under the former Trinamool Congress (TMC) government.

Implementation of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita

The cabinet also decided to implement the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, the new criminal law code, in the state. This move aligns with the central government's efforts to replace colonial-era laws with modern legislation.

Age Limit Relaxation for Government Jobs

In a significant decision aimed at benefiting job seekers, the state government has announced a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit for government job examinations. This is expected to provide relief to many candidates who were affected by delays in recruitment processes.

Criticism of Previous TMC Government

Adhikari accused the previous TMC administration of deliberately delaying census-related work in the state, calling it a betrayal of the people. He emphasized that the new government is committed to transparency and efficient governance.

These decisions mark the beginning of a new policy direction in West Bengal under the BJP government, focusing on infrastructure security, welfare schemes, and administrative reforms.
