The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) on Friday announced a 10% water cut in areas located along the Thane-Mumbai fringes. These areas are primarily serviced with water sourced and supplied from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Affected Areas
The water cut will impact regions under the Naupada-Kopri, Lokmanya Savarkarnagar, Wagle Estate, and parts of the Majiwada-Manpada Ward Committee. The cuts were enforced with immediate effect and will remain in place until further orders, according to officials.
Reasons for the Water Cut
The BMC announced the cuts starting May 15 due to critically low water levels in its reservoirs. The cuts in Thane were enforced following directives from the state government, considering the forecast issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) regarding El Niño and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions this year.
“The step was taken to ensure water availability in the reservoirs lasts longer,” said an official, appealing to citizens to use water carefully.
