Agartala: In a troubling incident highlighting lapses in child care, three minor girls escaped from a children's home at Palatana in Udaipur subdivision of Tripura's Gomati district late Monday night. The girls allegedly exploited security gaps and cited dissatisfaction with the treatment and facilities at the home.

Escape and Rescue

The girls traveled through the night and were spotted Tuesday morning at Bishramganj, situated on the route between Udaipur and Agartala. Residents who noticed their suspicious movement alerted the police, who promptly rescued the minors and began an inquiry into the circumstances of their escape.

Reasons for Leaving

According to preliminary accounts, the girls expressed unhappiness with the food and what they described as inadequate facilities at the home. They allegedly left after dinner while staff members were resting. The girls are reported to be from Sonamura in Sepahijala district, Jolaibari in South Tripura, and Radhakishorepur in Gomati district.

Police Response

Home officials and personnel from Kakraban Police Station reached Bishramganj after being informed. After initial questioning, the girls were returned to the home authorities. Officer-in-Charge of Bishramganj police station Ajit Debbarma stated, “A probe has been initiated in coordination with Gomati district police.”

Police said an investigation has been initiated to examine management practices, supervision, and living conditions at the facility. This incident has renewed concerns over security measures and welfare standards in child care institutions across the state.
