Three police officers die in Bihar road accident

A wave of grief swept through Madhepura on Friday as news of the tragic deaths of three young police officers in a road accident left colleagues, friends and family members in shock.

The officers, all serving as SHOs at different police stations in the district, were returning to Madhepura after attending a training session in Patna when their vehicle met with a fatal accident in Begusarai.

Among the officers, Sajan Kumar Paswan, a 2018-batch officer from Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas district, was the youngest and was unmarried. Neeraj Kumar, a resident of Bhabhua in Kaimur district, had also joined the police service in 2018. Gyanendra Amrendra, a resident of Ajampur Gola village under Manihari police station in Katihar district, was a 2009-batch officer.

The first family members to reach Madhepura were those of Gyanendra Amrendra. The sudden loss had left them shattered. Women in the family wept inconsolably, while other relatives stood in stunned silence. Overwhelmed by grief, none of them was in a position to speak.

Following postmortem examinations, the bodies of the three officers were brought to the police line in Madhepura, where they were accorded a guard of honour on Friday.

Kosi range DIG Kumar Ashish, district magistrate Abhishek Ranjan, superintendent of police Sandeep Singh, SDPO Pravendra Bharti, Uda-Kishunganj SDPO Avinash Kumar, traffic DSP Chetnanand Jha and trainee DSP Nurul Haque paid floral tributes to the slain officers. As family members gathered at the police line, scenes of heartbreak were witnessed. Cries of anguish filled the air as relatives bid farewell to their loved ones for the last time. Colleagues and locals watched with moist eyes as the officers, remembered for their dedication and service, were given a final salute.

Later, the bodies were sent to their native places in separate vehicles under police escort, marking the end of a sombre day that left an entire police fraternity mourning the loss of three of its own.
