Ramanathapuram: The Tamil Nadu Thowheed Jamath (TNTJ) organized a large-scale rally in Ramanathapuram on Sunday, adopting a resolution that calls upon the state government to enact legislation to counteract a recent High Court order. The order restricts the slaughter of cows and sheep to licensed facilities only.
Religious Harmony Concerns
The organization expressed concerns that the High Court's decision could disrupt religious harmony and urged the government to implement legal measures to protect religious practices. The rally was organized by the TNTJ's south district unit and also served as a protest against the rising incidents of sexual violence and crimes against women and children in the state.
Mass Participation
Thousands of men, women, and children participated in the march, which proceeded from the old bus stand to the government workshop grounds. The participants carried banners and raised slogans demanding justice and stricter laws.
Demands for Stricter Punishments
Among the resolutions passed, the TNTJ demanded harsher penalties for those convicted of sexual offenses, including denial of bail and the death penalty for heinous cases. The organization also urged the government to fulfill its promise of increasing reservation for Muslims to 7 percent, as recommended by the Sachar Committee.
The rally highlighted the community's call for legal reforms to ensure safety and religious freedom. The TNTJ emphasized the need for immediate action to address these pressing issues.
