Toddler dies after fall at textile mill quarters in Coimbatore

A 1.5-year-old girl died after falling while playing at the staff quarters of a textile unit in Irugur, Coimbatore, on Saturday evening.

Victim identified

The deceased, P Anisha, was the daughter of Shanthimambalaga, 22, an employee of Sivasubramania Textiles Unit-II on Kurumbapalayam Road near Irugur. The family, originally from Odisha's Kalahandi district, was living in the mill quarters.

Incident details

Police said the incident took place when the child's mother was at work. Shanthimambalaga had left her daughter under the care of her sister Basanthi and brother-in-law Mustaf Ahmed. Preliminary inquiry revealed that Basanthi informed the child's mother that Anisha had fallen while playing and was unconscious. When Shanthimambalaga rushed back home, she found the child unresponsive.

Medical response

Anisha was then rushed to a nearby private hospital with help from nearby residents. However, doctors advised that she be shifted immediately to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH). She was then taken there on a two-wheeler, but doctors declared her dead on arrival.
