Trichy Activists Condemn Riverbank Construction, Threaten Protests
Trichy Youth Federation Warns Against Riverbank Construction

In a bold move to protect Trichy's waterways, a prominent youth organization has launched a public campaign against illegal construction activities encroaching on riverbanks and irrigation channels. The group has issued a stern warning to authorities, demanding immediate intervention.

Posters Appear in Woraiyur Demanding Action

On Wednesday, numerous posters from the All India Youth Federation appeared on a bridge over an irrigation channel located on Kuzhumani Road in the Woraiyur area. This spot is notably close to the bustling Kasivilangi fish market. The posters carried a clear and urgent message: halt the destruction of water bodies.

The campaign directly calls for the preservation of rivers and channels, which are crucial for irrigation, groundwater recharge, and local ecology. Furthermore, the federation has demanded strict action against Public Works Department (PWD) officials who allegedly granted permissions for these constructions on protected banks.

Social Media Video Highlights Specific Violation

The issue gained further traction through social media, where a video clip was widely circulated. In the video, an individual points to a specific building under construction on the bank of a distributary of the mighty Cauvery river. The person in the clip vehemently calls for the immediate halting of all work at that site, showcasing the tangible threat to the river's ecosystem.

Federation Issues Ultimatum, Threatens Protests

The All India Youth Federation has not stopped at posters and social media appeals. The group has escalated its stance by issuing a direct warning to the authorities. They have clearly stated that if no concrete measures are taken to stop these illegal constructions and hold responsible officials accountable, they will be forced to organize large-scale public protests.

This development highlights the growing public frustration over the encroachment of vital water bodies in Trichy. It sets the stage for a potential confrontation between citizen activists and government departments if the demands for preserving the city's natural water channels are not met promptly.
