Jaipur witnessed two separate late-night road accidents on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of a woman lecturer and a hotel operator. The incidents have raised concerns about overspeeding in the city.
First Incident: Hit-and-Run Claims Lecturer's Life
In the first accident, Bhawna Vashisht, 40, a lecturer, was killed in a hit-and-run case while she was out for a post-dinner walk with her husband in the Jagatpura area. According to the Ramnagariya police, the accident occurred around 10:30 pm near the CBI railway crossing. An unidentified vehicle, driven rashly, hit the couple from behind and fled the spot.
Passers-by alerted the police, who rushed the couple to a hospital. Bhawna succumbed to her injuries during treatment, while her husband was discharged after receiving medical care. A senior police officer stated that a hit-and-run case has been registered, and a search is underway for the unidentified vehicle and driver.
Second Incident: Speeding Car Overturns, Kills Hotelier
A few hours later, another accident occurred when a speeding car overturned near Jaipur Bakery on the 200-feet Bypass Road. The incident killed a 26-year-old hotelier and injured the driver. The Karni Vihar police identified the deceased as Surendra Singh Shekhawat, a resident of Palsana, who ran a hotel on Sirsi Road.
Around 11:45 pm, Shekhawat was traveling with five friends in two vehicles towards the bypass. The speeding car lost balance while trying to avoid a divider and overturned. Shekhawat, who was seated beside the driver, suffered critical injuries. His friends managed to escape by jumping out through the windows. Shekhawat and the driver, Ashok Bishnoi, were rushed to the hospital, where Surendra was declared dead. Ashok remains admitted for treatment.
Overspeeding Identified as Primary Cause
Police officials stated that overspeeding appeared to be the primary cause in both accidents. Investigations are ongoing in both cases.
