An administrative probe was ordered on Tuesday after the family of a deceased Uttar Pradesh Police head constable from Panwari village in Kiraoli tehsil staged a protest at the collectorate in Agra, demanding action in a land dispute case.
Background of the Incident
Constable Kunj Bihari died of a brain stroke while on election duty in Jhansi district of Uttar Pradesh in May 2024. His 65-year-old mother, Pista Devi, lay down in front of the car of District Magistrate Manish Bansal on Monday afternoon, pleading for help. Other family members also gathered around the vehicle, expressing fear for their lives. Devi stated that her husband, Harikishan, is paralyzed and on ventilator support.
Allegations and Grievances
The family claimed they have been struggling for the past 18 months to protect their farmland. They alleged that some villagers have illegally taken over their land and have been threatening them with guns. Additionally, they accused a local revenue official of aiding the accused by submitting an incorrect report.
District Magistrate's Response
After hearing the complaint, District Magistrate Manish Bansal took immediate cognizance of the land dispute and ordered an inquiry. A team has been formed under the chairmanship of the concerned Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), which will conduct a thorough on-site investigation, and effective action will be taken, said the DM. He further added that land demarcation will be carried out in the presence of police.
The incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by families of deceased police personnel, particularly in matters related to property disputes. The administration has assured swift action, and the probe is expected to provide clarity on the allegations.
