Vishnupad Corridor Project: GMC Begins Marking Structures for Demolition
Vishnupad Corridor: GMC Marks Structures for Demolition

Gaya: As the Gaya Municipal Corporation (GMC) officials are set to begin marking structures, including houses and property, for demolition under the Vishnupad Corridor project from Tuesday, affected homeowners are expressing apprehension. The demolitions are necessary to widen the approach road between Chand Chauraha and the Vishnupad Temple from the current 12 meters to 24 meters, along with beautification and alignment improvements.

Residents Form Association to Voice Concerns

Affected property owners, particularly from the Karsilili locality, have formed an association called Shri Vishnupad Kshetriye Jan Jagran Manch to protect their interests. On Monday, the Manch's office-bearers interacted with media, sharing their concerns. Representatives of the Vishnupad Temple Management Committee (VTMC) were also present.

Bacchu Lal Bitthal, president of the VTMC, stated that the shrine management committee initially supported the corridor project, believing it would benefit pilgrims. However, they now realize the project may adversely affect the cultural and religious heritage of the area. He demanded an end to ambiguity by releasing project details and consulting stakeholders before issuing the gazette notification for demolition.

Extent of Demolition and Demands

According to local pandas and residents, 694 structures within a 200-meter radius of the Vishnupad Temple may be demolished. Residents demand a reduction in the approach road width to minimize displacement and demolition. Confusion also persists regarding compensation for affected property owners.

Gaya District Magistrate Shashank Shubhankar stated that the project map has been shared with stakeholders. A 10-day drive to mark structures for demolition begins Tuesday. After marking, feedback from affected people will be considered before proceeding further. Earlier, GMC Commissioner Abhishek Palasia assured that minimal demolition would be carried out.
