The West Bengal government on Monday sanctioned the prosecution of former R G Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the hospital. The case gained national attention following the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the institution in August 2024.
Governor Approves Proceedings
The proceedings have been approved by the governor under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), according to an order issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare, as per a PTI report.
CBI Case Details
The order further noted that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a regular case against Ghosh and three entities—Maa Tara Traders, Eshan Cafe, and Khama Louha—under charges related to criminal conspiracy, cheating, and violations of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari shared the official order granting formal permission to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on his social media account.
“Prima facie, materials examined by the competent authority revealed criminal acts of commission and omission on the part of Sandip Ghosh,” the order stated.
