Woman killed in Trichy road accident, son arrested

A 56-year-old woman lost her life in a road accident near Thuvarankurichi in Trichy on Thursday after the car driven by her son collided with the median on the Madurai-Trichy Road. The son was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident.

Details of the incident

The deceased has been identified as Thilaga, a resident of Kathakinaru village in Madurai district. According to police reports, she was traveling with her son R Prasanna, aged 28, and his wife Nandhini, aged 26, on Thursday morning. While crossing the Mukkan bridge, Prasanna lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the median. Thilaga died on the spot, while Nandhini sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Manapparai Government Hospital for treatment.

Legal action and investigation

Thuvarankurichi police cleared the wreckage from the scene and registered a case based on a complaint filed by Prasanna's father, Ramesh. Prasanna has been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for rash and negligent driving, endangering lives, and causing death by negligence. An autopsy was conducted at the Government Hospital, after which Thilaga's body was handed over to her family.
