The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has initiated a campaign to transform the twin cities into clean, beautiful, and green urban centers. To ensure the effective enforcement of the Swachhta Management Rules (SWM Rules-2026) and to enhance public awareness, a dedicated team from MCYJ conducted a special cleanliness drive and sapling planting program at the Tejli Sports Complex in Yamunanagar on Sunday.
Campaign Leadership and Execution
The entire campaign was carried out under the guidance of Mayor Suman Bahamani and Municipal Commissioner Mahabir Parsad. A specialized MCYJ team thoroughly cleaned the Tejli Sports Complex and its adjoining areas. Garbage scattered across the site was collected and disposed of in a proper, scientific manner using vehicles. Additionally, various species of shady and fruit-bearing trees were planted within the stadium complex to promote environmental protection.
Public Awareness and Education
During the program, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) expert Akash Kumar, associate Gagan Beniwal, and their team explained the nuances of cleanliness to players and local citizens present at the stadium. The gathering was informed about source segregation of waste under the SWM Rules-2026 and advised to always keep wet and dry waste in separate dustbins. They were also educated on the safe disposal of household hazardous waste, such as old medicines, batteries, and CFLs.
Community Participation and Pledge
MC officials, sanitation workers, and locals participated enthusiastically in the campaign, taking a collective pledge to keep the twin cities clean and green. Mayor Suman Bahamani stated that the primary objective of such campaigns is not just to promote cleanliness, but to change citizens' behavior towards their surroundings. 'The goal of complete cleanliness cannot be achieved unless the public is made aware of waste management. Along with planting trees, it is also our responsibility to care for them,' added Mayor Bahamani.
