A 16-year-old boy has died in a hospital four days after being ambushed and hacked by a gang of armed juveniles while running errands in Ludhiana. The victim, identified as Sahil, had recently completed his Class-X examinations. On May 21, he was traveling by motorcycle with his cousin to purchase vegetables. When they neared a government service center near the Phullanwal stadium, a large group of teenagers armed with swords and other bladed weapons confronted them.
Attack and Aftermath
According to Sahil's family, he got off the motorcycle and tried to flee on foot, but the attackers chased him down and struck him repeatedly. His family arrived at the scene after receiving a panicked phone call from his cousin and rushed him to a private hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Legal Action
The Sadar police have registered a first-information report (FIR) for murder, armed rioting, and unlawful assembly against four identified juveniles and 12 unidentified accomplices. The primary suspects are also 16-year-olds who recently completed Class X. Although they attended a different school than Sahil, police have established that the teenagers were known to each other.
Investigation and Motive
Sahil's father, Sanjeet Ram, a local painter living in labor quarters, stated that the family had no knowledge of any prior disputes or reasons for the attack. Sub-inspector Dharminder Singh, the additional station house officer of Sadar, said investigators suspect a previous unresolved argument or personal rivalry triggered the lethal assault. A manhunt is underway for the fugitive teenagers to determine the motive behind the killing.
The incident has shocked the local community, highlighting concerns about youth violence. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward as they continue their investigation.
