31 Farmers Booked for Attempt to Damage Haryana Water Pipeline

In a recent development, the police in Haryana have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against 31 farmer activists for allegedly attempting to damage a Bhakra water pipeline that supplies water to Hansi town. The incident occurred during a protest in Chainat village, where the farmers also reportedly obstructed government work.

Details of the Incident

According to Hansi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar, the case was filed based on a complaint lodged by Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Sheela Devi, who accused the protesters of disrupting official duties. The police reported that a group of farmers arrived at the pipeline site on Monday afternoon, armed with hammers and iron rods. When their attempts to break the pipeline failed, they allegedly placed large pipes on the Hansi–Barwala road, effectively blocking traffic.

Complaint by SDO Sheela Devi

In her complaint, SDO Sheela Devi stated that she had been appointed as Duty Magistrate during the ongoing agitation over water supply issues in Chainat village. She claimed that despite repeated appeals from administrative officials not to block the road, the protesters continued to raise slogans and proceeded with the blockade. The authorities further alleged that the demonstrators attempted to uproot a water pipeline laid by the Public Health Department near Kharkari Mor.

The FIR includes charges of attempting to cause damage to public property and obstructing government work. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and gathering evidence to identify all individuals involved in the incident.

Context of the Protests

The protests in Chainat village are part of a larger agitation by farmers demanding resolution of water supply issues. The Bhakra water pipeline is a critical infrastructure providing water to Hansi town and surrounding areas. The alleged attempt to damage the pipeline has raised concerns about water security and public safety. Officials have urged the protesters to resolve their grievances through dialogue rather than resorting to unlawful activities.

The police have assured that a thorough investigation will be conducted and appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty. Meanwhile, water supply to Hansi town remains unaffected, and authorities are monitoring the situation closely to prevent any further disruptions.
