A 59-year-old man who had been evading arrest for two years was apprehended in Mangaluru on Sunday, according to police officials. The accused, identified as Goods Muneer, also known as T P Muneer and Ahmed, was arrested from a rented apartment in Kulashekhar, where he had been living under a false identity.
Details of the Arrest
The arrest was made by a special team of the Mangaluru police following a tip-off about his whereabouts. Muneer, a resident of Bunder, had been on the run since 2024 and was wanted in connection with multiple criminal cases, including cheating and financial fraud. Police sources revealed that he had changed his appearance and used aliases to avoid detection.
Background of the Accused
Goods Muneer, originally a businessman, was involved in several fraudulent activities that led to the registration of cases against him. He had been absconding since the cases were filed, and despite multiple attempts, the police were unable to trace him until now. During his time in hiding, he moved frequently and avoided using digital transactions to remain untraceable.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
After his arrest, Muneer was produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody. The police are currently investigating his network and possible accomplices. Further details regarding the specific cases against him are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
The Mangaluru police have urged the public to report any suspicious activities to help maintain law and order. This arrest is part of a broader crackdown on absconding offenders in the region.
