Kolkata: Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has sought a 10-day extension for the submission of detailed building-plan drawings to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) buildings department, municipal commissioner Smita Pandey confirmed on Sunday. The request was communicated to the KMC buildings department through Banerjee's lawyer, according to sources within the civic body. It is expected that his legal representatives will visit the KMC offices this week to further discuss the matter.
Notices Issued for 17 Properties
The KMC's executive engineers from three boroughs had earlier issued notices to 17 properties located across boroughs VIII, IX, and X. These properties are either owned or co-owned by Banerjee, his family members, or his company. The notices demand the submission of sanctioned building plans and updated drawings reflecting any alterations made over the years. Pandey stated, "He has sought 10 days for submission of necessary documents. We are looking into the matter."
Details of the Properties
Among the 17 buildings, two are situated in Panditya and adjoining areas, one is near New Alipore, and the remaining properties are located in borough IX, covering Harish Mukherjee Road, Kalighat, and Bhowanipore. One notable property is Shantiniketan, where the notice specifically directs the concerned parties to appear before the borough building department's executive engineer (borough IX) with the sanctioned plan drawing. Additionally, a fresh drawing reflecting any subsequent alterations must be submitted.
A KMC official elaborated on the procedure: "The owners or co-owners have been asked to appear at three borough offices and submit fresh drawings of alterations made in the past few years. We will then give the owners an opportunity to appear for a hearing. Based on its outcome, the future course of action will be taken."
Legal Options Explored
Trinamool Congress sources indicated that the Banerjee family may consider moving court if the situation demands. The development comes amid ongoing scrutiny of property documents by the civic authorities, highlighting the importance of compliance with building regulations in Kolkata.
