The Sirkazhi constituency has historically witnessed a strong rivalry between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). In the 2021 Assembly elections, the DMK's M. Panneerselvam emerged victorious with 94,057 votes, defeating the AIADMK's P. V. Bharathi, who garnered 81,909 votes, resulting in a margin of 12,148 votes. However, in the 2016 elections, the AIADMK's P. V. Bharathi won the seat with 76,487 votes, defeating the DMK's S. Killai Ravindran, who secured 67,484 votes, with a margin of 9,003 votes. Earlier, in the 2011 elections, the AIADMK's Dr. M. Sakthi—who is once again contesting from the same seat—won with 83,881 votes, defeating the VCK's P. Durairajan, who received 56,502 votes, by a substantial margin of 27,379 votes.
