A manhunt is underway after a woman in her 50s was stabbed in broad daylight in a park in Stockton-on-Tees, in what police have described as a targeted attack. Officers were called at approximately 1:40 pm on Sunday to reports of a stabbing at Hardwick Green Park.
Details of the Attack
The victim was approached by a masked man before being attacked with a knife, according to reports. The suspect, described as wearing dark clothing and a face covering, is believed to have been accompanied by a second man on a bicycle. Following the assault, both men fled towards a wooded area within the park.
The woman sustained a stab wound, which is not believed to be life-threatening. Police have confirmed that the incident appears to be targeted and does not pose a wider threat to the public.
Police Investigation
Cleveland Police said detectives are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry and are actively searching for the two suspects. A police cordon was put in place at the scene as forensic teams began examining the area. Officers have urged anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward. Information can also be provided anonymously via Crimestoppers.
Previous Incident Raises Questions
The attack follows a separate incident on 20 April, when a woman was reportedly dragged to the ground near the park's play area before escaping. It is not known whether the two incidents are connected. Enquiries remain ongoing as officers continue efforts to locate the suspects and establish the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
Authorities are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with information to assist in the investigation. The community is urged to remain vigilant but reassured that there is no wider threat.
