Former AIADMK Minister Accuses DMK MLA of Murder Conspiracy in Karur
In a dramatic press conference held in Karur on Tuesday, former AIADMK minister M R Vijayabhaskar made a shocking allegation that his life is under threat from DMK MLA V Senthilbalaji. Vijayabhaskar claimed that Senthilbalaji and his brother, Ashok Kumar, are actively conspiring to murder him as part of a plot to disrupt the upcoming elections and prevent his potential victory.
Serious Allegations and Immediate Police Action
"I have received credible information that the DMK MLA and his brother are conspiring to kill me. There is a clear and present threat to my life," Vijayabhaskar stated emphatically during the press meet. He further warned, "If anything happens to me or those around me, they should be held fully responsible." In response to these grave accusations, the AIADMK leader announced plans to submit a formal petition to the Director General of Police (DGP), the Superintendent of Police (SP), and the district collector, seeking immediate intervention and protection.
Background of Political Tensions in Karur
This explosive allegation comes against a backdrop of heightened political friction in Karur. Just one day prior to the press conference, Vijayabhaskar and his AIADMK cadres were involved in a physical scuffle with DMK workers. The altercation reportedly erupted over the alleged distribution of pamphlets concerning the sensitive temple land issue in the region.
The temple land controversy has become a significant flashpoint in the Karur election landscape. Recent actions by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department to reclaim land belonging to the Sri Balasubramaniya Swamy temple in Vennaimalai have intensified local tensions. As part of this eviction drive, several properties and commercial shops have been sealed, fueling public discontent and political maneuvering.
Enhanced Security Measures and Political Rebuttals
Following Monday's violent clash, Vijayabhaskar approached local law enforcement authorities. The police have since granted him enhanced protection, including deployment of armed personnel equipped with firearms to ensure his safety. This move underscores the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the perceived threats.
However, DMK MLA V Senthilbalaji, who is currently contesting from Coimbatore South, has vehemently denied all allegations. Responding to questions in Coimbatore, Senthilbalaji dismissed Vijayabhaskar's claims as entirely baseless and politically motivated. "I am in Coimbatore and he is in Karur. How can I possibly do anything to him from here? Is this some sort of war where missiles can be fired across districts?" he questioned rhetorically, highlighting the geographical distance between them as evidence against the conspiracy theory.
Implications for the Upcoming Elections
This incident has injected a new level of volatility into the already charged electoral atmosphere in Tamil Nadu. The allegations of a murder plot, combined with the ongoing temple land disputes and previous physical confrontations, suggest that the political battle in Karur is intensifying rapidly. Both AIADMK and DMK are leveraging these developments to galvanize their respective voter bases, with accusations and counter-accusations likely to dominate campaign narratives in the coming days.
As the situation unfolds, all eyes will be on the police investigation and the electoral commission's response to ensure that the election process remains free, fair, and secure for all candidates and voters involved.
