AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has initiated preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with the party planning to contest up to 200 seats. The party has identified western Uttar Pradesh and the Awadh region as key areas for expansion. Additionally, AIMIM remains open to forming alliances, including with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
Strategic Expansion and Alliance Prospects
The outreach aims to attract Muslim voters who have traditionally aligned with the Samajwadi Party. At the same time, Owaisi is exploring the possibility of a Dalit-Muslim political coalition, which could reshape the state's electoral dynamics. The party has reorganized its Uttar Pradesh unit and is gearing up for an extensive statewide campaign.
AIMIM's strategy reflects a broader ambition to expand its footprint beyond its traditional stronghold of Hyderabad. By targeting western UP and Awadh, the party hopes to leverage the demographic mix of Muslim and Dalit communities, who together constitute a significant voting bloc.
Reorganization and Campaign Preparations
As part of its preparations, AIMIM has restructured its state leadership and appointed new district coordinators. The party plans to hold a series of public meetings and outreach programs in the coming months. Owaisi is expected to personally lead the campaign, focusing on issues such as unemployment, inflation, and minority rights.
The potential alliance with the BSP, led by Mayawati, could provide a formidable challenge to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Samajwadi Party. However, the success of such a coalition will depend on seat-sharing negotiations and ideological alignment.
AIMIM's expansion in Uttar Pradesh is being closely watched by political analysts, as it could alter the state's political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
