AIMIM Challenges Congratulatory Motion for Delayed Water Project in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
The political atmosphere within the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) remains tense following a chaotic general body meeting. The AIMIM party has now openly questioned the rationale behind a proposal that seeks to congratulate Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for their efforts in expediting the city's new water supply project.
Missed Deadlines and Unfulfilled Promises
Leader of the opposition in the CSMC and AIMIM leader Abdul Sameer Sajid highlighted the project's troubled timeline. "After the missed deadline of March 2024, Fadnavis and Shinde in January had assured that Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar would get a smooth water supply in the 'next two months'," Sajid stated. He expressed bewilderment at the ruling party's push for congratulations, noting, "While the project is bound to remain incomplete for the next two years, we do not have any idea why the ruling party corporators are keen to congratulate the government."
Political Clashes Over Proposal
When the congratulatory proposal was tabled during the general body meeting, it immediately sparked a heated exchange between BJP and Shiv Sena (UBT) members. The Shiv Sena (UBT) faction accused the ruling party of deliberately omitting the name of former Chief Minister and party leader Uddhav Thackeray from the proposal, adding another layer of political friction to the proceedings.
AIMIM Accuses Ruling Party of Misleading Citizens
The AIMIM leaders have accused ruling party officials of misleading the public regarding the water supply project's progress. "No authentic information is being given to us on the progress of the project," Sajid emphasized. He further criticized the proposal, saying, "On the contrary, a congratulation proposal is tabled by keeping everybody in the dark about the fate of the project."
Walkout Over City Renaming Issue
In a related development, the general body meeting also witnessed AIMIM corporators staging a walkout. This protest was triggered when BJP and other members raised the issue of renaming the city. The AIMIM leaders argued that the focus should remain on critical matters like the water supply project and overall urban development, rather than revisiting old controversies.
Mayor Sameer Rajurkar was unavailable for comment on these developments, leaving the municipal corporation's official stance unclear as tensions continue to simmer.
