Ajit Pawar Slams BJP's PCMC Tenure: 'Only Corruption, No Governance'
Ajit Pawar Accuses BJP of Corruption in PCMC Rule

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, alleging that its five-year rule over the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was characterized by a complete lack of governance and rampant corruption. Addressing an election rally in Akurdi, Pawar positioned the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) as the solution to restore civic order and development.

Allegations of Misrule and Rampant Corruption

Pawar did not mince words while criticizing the BJP's tenure from 2017 to 2022. "Those who ruled Pimpri-Chinchwad had no clue how to govern, they knew only about indulging in corruption," he stated. He further escalated his allegations by claiming that even schemes for sterilizing stray dogs were tainted by corrupt practices during the BJP's administration.

Contrasting this with his party's legacy, Pawar reminded the audience of his long association with local governance. "I ruled PCMC for 25 years, PMC for 10 years and even looked after the Pune Zilla Parishad and district. But power never went to my head," he asserted, emphasizing a disciplined approach during the NCP's time in power.

Rise of Goon Culture and Law & Order Concerns

A significant part of Pawar's critique focused on deteriorating law and order. He claimed that citizens had informed him about goons being brought into the civic body's affairs. "Why were goons brought in PCMC?" he questioned, arguing that such intimidation was against the constitutional ideals of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

He specifically mentioned the term 'koyta' (a local slang for violent troublemakers), stating they were unseen during NCP rule but are now "roaming free" and "torching vehicles." Pawar blamed the current rulers for being soft on such gangs, allowing them to go scot-free. "We will ensure that such gangs are reined-in," he promised, while clarifying that his party would adhere to the model code of conduct and not resort to similar intimidating tactics.

Vision for Pimpri-Chinchwad: AI and Civic Amenities

Looking forward, the Deputy CM outlined his party's vision for the industrial township. He pledged to use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve and streamline civic services in Pimpri-Chinchwad. His immediate focus for Akurdi and surrounding areas includes:

  • Revamping natural nullahs and streams.
  • Upgrading health facilities.
  • Implementing a robust cleanliness system.
  • Improving facilities in and around Hedgewar Bhavan.

Pawar also announced plans to set up helpline centers for citizens, aiming to provide a more responsive administration. His speech, delivered on January 9, 2026, sets a sharp confrontational tone for the upcoming PCMC polls, framing the election as a choice between a corrupt, inefficient past and a development-oriented, secure future under his party's leadership.
